“This September 4th is the fifth anniversary of Arrojo Studio. As we continue to evolve as a brand and as a business there are many reasons to celebrate. We have a terrific relationship with our professional hair care sponsor, Wella, whose own passion for education means we have the pleasure to travel and teach together. Our Education Director, Amanda Jenkins, alongside our in-house educators, has done a stellar job improving the level of our Apprentice and Academy Teams. The original team of five is now 60, and the staff loyalty and dedication to teamwork is our greatest success. Everyday I see our growing number of stylists displaying real expertise and love for their craft, and with it, a genuine commitment to make each client look good and feel great. For me, this is what it’s all about.
Moving forward, we have incredibly exciting times to come. The Arrojo Product Line is very much on the way. It will consist of shampoos, conditioners and styling products, all developed to the highest standards of performance. Personally, this has been a life-long dream, and I cannot wait to put what I believe to be a fantastic product on our shelves. We’re also in production of a client-friendly hairstyling handbook, tentatively titled ‘The Root To Great Hair’. In every aspect of our business we strive to push things forward. Our website is testament to this philosophy. Currently in its fifth re-design, the revamp will have three ultra-modern hosts, arrojostudio, arrojoeducation and arrojoproduct. An e-commerce site, it will be integral to the continued development of the Arrojo brand.
Finally, this will be our last newsletter. We’re moving to a more substantial magazine format, which will give us room to display images from the shoots, shows and collections we execute. It will also display more in-depth articles and a commitment to sharing professional styling tips.
It’s a real pleasure to have an audience with which to communicate our creative exploits, and we look forward to speaking with you again in the future.
All my very best.” Nick Arrojo.
At Arrojo we would like to leave things just a little bit better than we found them. That’s why we use our talents to give something back to charities that excite us through their projects for a healthier, happier world. We do it by offering gift certificates for cut and color services that may be raffled off at silent auction. Just some of the trusts to benefit from this work include the Heart & Soul Charitable Foundation Fund, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Cancer Society. What’s more our Project Katrina effort raised over $10,000, by offering a day of cut, color & make up services with all donations straight to the hurricane fund. This proved such a success that we’ve made it an annual occasion. This year, the benefactor is still to be chosen but the fundraiser will be held at the studio in the fall. Please check our website for upcoming details. And if you are involved in a project that might be of interest to us please contact antonia@arrojostudio.com.
We’re delighted to introduce two Academy Graduates to the salon floor. On the color side, Amy has displayed real passion, verve and no little talent in completing her education program. And on the cutting side, Stacey’s skill with creating modern, low-maintenance hairstyles has impressed everyone at Arrojo. Both have worked incredibly hard to get where they are and, as they move towards building their own client base, we welcome them wholeheartedly to the floor.

At Arrojo we live to create great hair and great style for all people. To take us to the next phase of this unique vision, Arrojo Product will be launched this coming winter. A natural progression for a brand with fearless forward momentum, the twelve-unit line uses Vitamin Synthesis Technology to meet the very highest standards of luxury and performance. And with sleek, modern and gorgeous design, Arrojo Product will set the gold standard in contemporary hair care.
Is a six strong team who employ their respective talents for the continued growth of the Arrojo brand. Photo shoots on our website to our windows are conceptualized and delivered in-house. Arrojostudio.com, brochures, postcards and newsletters are all designed and written here too. The forthcoming Arrojo Product is a brainchild of the business. Arrojo Education teaches fellow hairdressers with inspirational shows and seminars. All are choreographed within Creative. And our phenomenal press coverage results from running our own PR. All this means we are uniquely positioned to control our image and our output. Arrojo Creative opened in March 2004 and is located directly above the salon.

Since our opening, the phenomenal press and PR we’ve received has helped us become one of the leading hair salon’s in the industry. By resolutely managing our own press product, we have the creative freedom to launch looks that portray individuality, and discover trends straight from the street. This has led to a real buzz about our work. Our Short Order and Funkstörung editorials were the recent cover stories for American Salon and Salon News respectively, while Allure, People Magazine, Elle and WWD are just some who have featured Arrojo in 2006. And on TV, Nick is now filming his fifth season of What Not To Wear, while ABC and CBS invited us to share our Summer Trends for the season. Great News.

As a glowing reference for the level of education and inspiration given to our Apprentice and Academy teams, Chuck, a recent Academy graduate, has produced a stunning editorial that has wowed everyone in the salon. Elegant Organics is a sexy and beautiful shoot, with the concept of letting each of the hairstyles shape and texture work together with the clothes worn by the model for natural flow and feel. The wearable and loose updo’s displayed messy texture and a nuyorican downbeat style.

Arrojo Education is a highly successful arm of our business. Our goal is simple: to raise standards in our craft. Over the last year we’ve traveled and taught some 15,000 fellow professionals, detailing technique and inspiration in shows and seminars across the States. And the demand is growing. In the next six months 25 of our staff will travel through Europe and the Americas to inspire and educate as part of Wella Future Vision Tour. We wish them well on their journeys.
On Monday July 24th the next generation of Arrojo stylists took to the stage at the iconic Wella Studio, Rockerfella Plaza. Aptly titled Starring On Stage, the idea was to give Abby, Chuck, Cheryl, Yanni and Amy an opportunity to show their skills in the litmus test of show-time presentation hairdressing. The sold out show proved a huge success and was ideal preparation for our young hairdressers as they get set to embark on long and fruitful careers in the industry. As part of the show, we invited Elena, another recent graduate from the Arrojo Academy, to display some of her unique creativity as a celebration of her promotion. With a rip-roaring hip-hop soundtrack and video as the backdrop, Elena paid fantastic homage to her Brooklyn roots. Inspired by old school 90’s beats and style, bling and braids were in full effect, while hair-color was a cascade of rich red and refined turquoise. Totally fresh and full of flavor. Elena is an amazing colorist, whose fun, individual attitude towards her craft has already proved a winner with clients.
Cheryl, Chuck and Elena are three members of the Academy that have proved an unqualified success. Their hard work, talent and willingness to learn have brought fantastic energy and enthusiasm to the salon. So it is with great pleasure we announce their promotion to the level of Junior Stylist. The move is well deserved, and we’re sure it will have a positive impact on their blossoming careers.
Want a cut and color for not much dollar? Arrojo Apprentices are in class weekday mornings and need models for their continued education. Stop by on Thursday evenings between 7 and 8 pm for a quick consultation. Or call us for more info.
Our thanks must go to Antonia and Cynthia for their phenomenal work in maintaining the smooth running of Arrojo Studio. As our client co-coordinator, Antonia directs operations from the front desk with aplomb. And as the salon floor manager, Cynthia is a friendly, personable and warm shoulder for all the staff, and especially our young apprentice team. Their commitment to the Arrojo concept of teamwork makes them the perfect pair to lead us into the future.
