“First of all I’d like to thank all our clients for their much valued support and inspiration. We love making you look good and feel great. Our continued commitment to stronger client relationships was the motivation behind our ongoing Salon Rewards Program; and we have new exciting offers in the pipeline. With this in mind, we’d be delighted if you could fill out our confidential address card. This allows us to share up to date information on new reward and referral programs. Arrojo technology maintains its forward momentum. Soon you’ll be able to book appointments online. With telephone bookings now being taken in our creative office, we’re creating a streamlined front desk for your convenience. With new fixtures and fittings we will create more space and comfort for clients.

Word of our work continues to spread across the USA. We’ve just returned from Chicago, where we showcased our summer trends for CBS and ABC television. Furthermore, we were a main stage attraction at the Chicago Mid West Beauty Show. The biggest of its kind in the USA, our creative and contemporary collections proved a huge hit. The sustained success of What Not To Wear is a great source of cheer. We enjoy everything it brings. There’s a host of new talent now on the salon floor. All began as Arrojo Apprentices, their skill, energy and enthusiasm is a testament to our complete commitment to education. Finally I’d like to offer my gratitude to some core members of the team. Shannon, Susan, James and Arielle were the first to join this amazing enterprise, their industry and intellect was integral to our development. They remain leading lights in the business.

All my very best.” Nick Arrojo.

With Spring’s warmer weather around the corner, Nick takes the chance to discuss myths about heat, humidity and the effect it has on your hair.

HUMIDITY

So many clients talk about how humidity makes their hair frizzy. Humidity puts moisture in the hair, which causes hair to curl. Frizz is created when curly hair is styled improperly or is handled too much before being set and dried. Wella’s Hypercurl will prevent frizzing by giving fantastic control, texture and dimension to your natural waves.

CONDITIONERS PROTECT FROM THE SUN

I’m amazed how many people use conditioner believing it acts as solid sun protection. The only way hair is protected against harmful UV rays is with added sunscreen. Far better, is a product specifically formulated for sun exposure. Wella Sunshine Golden Jelly is great; it helps protect with enough flexibility to give hair that ultimate wet look. Perfect for long summer days. And nights.

SUNBATHING WILL LIGHTEN THE HAIR

Many clients believe sunbathing will lighten the color in their hair. True, but your putting the hair under extreme stress. Protect with the right products and do your hairstyle a huge favor. The Sunset Shampoo, which removes saltwater and chorine, is great to refresh and invigorate. Then apply the Sunset Express Cream for a smooth, healthy glow. Finish with the Sunset Silk Spray, which is awesome for moisturizing the hair after sun exposure and works as a light styling aid, too.

Whatever the weather, wear your hair with swagger, style and confidence.

Introducing the 3rd annual Arrojo Underground event. “Arlequin”. April 30 2006. Underground events offer our hairdressers complete creative freedom to display their own unique vigor and vision. For the past two years Master Stylist Chrystoph Marten has ambushed subterranean New York with Dunkleheit and Funkstorung. Dunkleheit represents darkness. An infinite point that has unlimited possibilities. Chrystoph created a militant black and white production. Monotone dark shadows with hair to die for. His 2005 concept was Funkstorung. Translated as transmission interference, Chrystoph devised unique and extreme hair textures to replicate this surrounding static. A vibrant and fearless collection, it now forms our window display. With “Arlequin”, Chrystoph will once again impact on the cognition. Using cheerleaders as his canvas, Chrystoph will create cold color and diamond shaped sections to shoot at society and the system. Chrystoph’s phenomenal work includes editorial styling for fashion design ers Cloak and Naum. Arrojo Underground is a great off the wall occasion. Past events have proved a massive sold out success. Tickets are $50 and the show will take place at the Angel Orensanz Foundation Center for the Arts at 172 Norfolk Street on the Lower East Side. Call the front desk to book your seat.

VINCENT

Inspired by Tokyo street culture, Vincent came to New York for a fresh hairdressing challenge. His interest in the industry was born out of creative flair and a desire to make people look and feel great. After a successful apprenticeship in his hometown, Paris, Vincent moved to London and received great acclaim as Art Director for Toni & Guy. Having achieved his goals there, he realized a childhood dream and crossed the Atlantic. Seeking a change from corporate to independent, Vincent saw Arrojo’s editorial work and took note. He sought out the Studio and hasn’t looked back. Since 2004 Vincent has been a starring member of our team, his inspired work featuring on Gothic Luxury and NAHA editorials. But it’s being behind the chair that Vincent loves best. As he says, “The best haircut is easy to manage, looks great, grows out well and, most importantly, makes the client happy.” Touché.

ARIELLE

Arielle was our very first Arrojo Apprentice. Five years later she’s a top stylist, educator and an inspiration. She attended the Aveda Institute and met Nick during a class he was teaching. She struck a chord and Nick offered Arielle a job immediately. In the original Arrojo team of five she quickly grasped the value of teamwork. Under Nick she learned the precision razor and cutting techniques that is now her trademark. Inspired by art and architecture, she sees hairdressing as aesthetically comparable. “Cutting hair is structural work. I look over the face and find what I want to bring out. A great cut is something the client can feel confident and comfortable with. It shouldn’t need heavy styling, it deserves to look great in its own right”. With such knowledge and appreciation for her art, Arielle was a revelation, teaching at the Arrojo Inspiration class in November. Teaching is a passion she will continue to pursue. But Arielle’s priority remains creating beautiful, hip styles for her loyal clientele.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING.

Voted top 10 salon on citysearch.com, best Salon on salondaily.com and top salon on interhair.com.

“FANTASTIC! I had color and a cut done, and I walked out of Arrojo Studio on Cloud Nine! My family and friends have been raving about my “new look”. My colorist, Ellie, and my stylist, Cheryl, were both amazing! The staff is remarkably talented and they care about the clientele. It was my first trip to Arrojo, and I was treated like a life-long client. Well, I AM a life-long client NOW! Nick, you REALLY know how to run a salon. My thanks to everyone at Arrojo!!!”

“I come in from DC just to get my haircut here. Siobhan has given me the best haircut I have ever had -- I always get compliments on it!”

“I’m a 32 years old white boy - I’ve had long, bland, flat hair for 17 years. Time to update I checked out their fab new website and headed down to see Vincent. Can’t even begin to tell you how great the cut Vincent gave me is. His choice was modern, fresh and fit my face perfectly. Getting my hair knocked off for the first time in 17 years was daunting - he put me at ease. Vincent took time on the consultation, chatted; did a wonderful job. Amazing, how the right cut can make you look many years younger. I’m going back to the studio from now on.”

Recently we were invited by Wella to create an editorial for the upcoming launch of their fashion and beauty magazine, ‘8’. Arrojo Studio celebrated the traditional 1950’s updo by offering a distinctly modern twist on the 50’s theme. Conceptualized and delivered by our wonder-working editorial stylist, Kurt Lowry, the idea was to show the strength, power and beauty of a well constructed updo. The final images depict powerful women striding through falling cityscapes with compelling and commanding updos prevailing over the crumbling facades around them. The look is fast, foxy and furious and sure to bring back the buzz for contemporary updos.

Want a cut and color for not much dollar? Arrojo Apprentices are in class weekday mornings and need models for their continued education. Stop by on Thursday evenings between 7 and 8 pm for a quick consultation. Or call us for more info.

Keen to give something back to our loyal clientele, Arrojo Studio is proud to continue the Salon Rewards Program.

For every new client you refer to your stylist/colorist you will receive $20 off your next service. Just ask your friends to mention your name at the front desk, and you’ll automatically receive your discount. This offer continues until 5/31/06.

The North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) is the Oscar’s of hairstyling competitions in North America. Awards are given for contemporary and creative styling in 11 different categories. Many Apprentice and Academy stylists created their first photo shoot for the occasion. Our more experienced editorial stylists have entered too; with Nick invited to enter for Master Stylist of the Year. We’ll be at the ceremony in Las Vegas on Sunday July 16, and naturally we’re hoping to bring home a trophy or two!
