The impact of hurricane Katrina affected us all. Determined to make a difference, it brought the Arrojo Team together for Project Katrina. On Sunday, October 23 our stylists volunteered their time to cut, color and apply make-up, with all proceeds going straight to Mercy Corp, a humanitarian agency that provides emergency relief services across the globe. It proved a huge hit. The full day was booked weeks in advance. A minimum donation of $50 for cut or make over and $70 for color brought in 93 great clients. Any tips received were donated too, bringing a total of $10,256 to help those in need. The success of the event has inspired us to make this an annual occasion, with a different charity nominated each year. Let’s make a difference!

NEW TALENT FOCUS

The Arrojo Academy continues to shine. Academy Team stylists were invited to display their vision and vigor as part of a inspirational evening held at the Wella Studio at Rockefeller Center. Young cutters and colorists presented a unique collection with cuts ranging from soft, flowing textures to sharp, bold and edgy shapes. Colors were characterized by their rich warm tones with chestnuts and bright blondes complimenting bold bangs and long layers. The show proved a great success with many of the capacity audience staying behind to take a closer look at the inspired work of the Academy.

CHERYL

Integral to the styling team for the show was Cheryl. A unique individual, she is shortly to graduate from the Academy and become a full-time stylist. Her success is driven by vivacious energy, creativity and a real desire to make the client look and feel great. Cheryl joined our team 12 months ago and has since represented Arrojo Studio at the Wella Trend Vision Awards, where she made the final 10 for ingenuity in model transformation. She has completed our in house training program and now utilizes both scissors and razor to work with freedom, softness and texture. She’s sure to be a great addition to the styling team.

ARROJO EDUCATION

Our education division allows us to share the unique insights and knowledge of the Arrojo Team. We inspire and gain inspiration as a rich, diverse array of industry professionals come to learn with us. Our seminars take place on location and in our own creative education facility. Most recently, we took our education to the Wella Studio for a behind-the-scenes look into the making of an Arrojo Show. This stirring one-off, featured cut, color, fashion styling and make-up instruction before culminating in a live Arrojo Show. In house, the Arrojo Inspiration class took place on the 13 and 14 of November. As one attendee said, “thank you! This has given me so much...” The next Arrojo Education is “Up Close With Nick” and takes place at Arrojo Studio, January 29 and 30.

ASSISTANT SPOTLIGHT

Each of our assistants takes twice weekly classes in the studio. This education is the foundation for them to develop into truly great hair stylists. In return, they give us fantastic energy and enthusiasm every day on the salon floor. Stacey is one such assistant. She previously worked in PR and corporate events before making the leap into hairdressing. What constituted a tremendous change has become a huge success. In nine months with Arrojo she has shown real commitment and creativity in refining her skills. Stacey has an intuitive eye for all hair styling, with particular flair for short, textured and edgy styles. What’s more, she’s the star of “Trapped by the Mormons” (www.trappedbythemormons.com), an indie film playing at the Pioneer Theater in December. Look out for her there, and on the salon floor.

Arrojo Studio is happy to receive an invitation to showcase our services, technology and education at the International Beauty Show (IBS) to be held at the Jacob Javits Center, New York, from April 30 to May 2 2006. A hair and beauty trade show, the IBS features industry icons from around the globe. The Arrojo Team will be featured on the main stage. Led by Nick, two shows over two days will include a video montage, live models and cuts with technique and inspiration detailed in full for the 500 strong audience. Look for our trade booth on the expo floor too. We’ll platform merchandise such as new educational DVDS, to t-shirts, styling tools and more. Also at the booth, Arrojo will stage cutting and styling demonstrations featuring unique insights from our Master Stylists.

2006 TREND PREDICTION

As we move into the spring of 2006 a new fresh attitude will reinvent current hairstyle: Bionic Chic. Short shapes, with stronger, bolder colors will take hair trends towards cleaner, more natural elements. This progression will see a shift towards closer crops and hair away from the face. A sophisticated, upbeat and wearable look with shine and texture prominent throughout. Colors will be natural, as a look bathed in authenticity and modernity takes hold.
