A Word From Nick
One era ends, a new decade begins, and with it I can look with pride at the work we have done over the past ten years. When I opened ARROJO studio in 2001 I was already established as a leading stylist, but I never knew how far my new business could––and would––go. I had five staff, six chairs, and a vision to be the best. Soon after I was asked to be the hairdressing host of What Not to Wear. It would become TLC’s number one show. And it would prove to be a fantastic opportunity, a vehicle from which to drive forward my business. Looking back there are many great memories and I believe we all did a phenomenal job in helping change the contributors’ look and style, and therefore their lives, for the better.

But when I survey the achievements of the last decade, I know that there is so much more that my team and I accomplished.

We were able to launch ARROJO education, which now incorporates sold-out shows and seminars, DVDs, and our commitment to raise standards in the hairdressing craft. We were able to create ARROJO product, which is now a professional product line, sought-after and used by beauty professionals up and down the country. We were able to open ARROJO cosmetology school, which is setting new standards of inspirational, career-shaping cosmetology education. We were able to win the Global Salon Business Awards Salon Entrepreneur of the Year award, and many other awards that are a testament to our growth and achievement. We were able to turn a staff of five into a staff of eighty-five. And we were able to relocate and expand a small six-chair studio into a 13,000 square foot operation that incorporates all the elements of a successful modern hairdressing brand.

Throughout all this, my catchphrase has been: forward-thinking, hard work, great reward. And I feel sure that this is the way for us to evolve and improve in this new decade, too.

With this in mind, I would like to welcome Nuala, the new ARROJO studio salon manager, to our team. As an experienced salon owner, manager and, crucially, as a visionary thinker, she is a key part of our commitment to ongoing improvement. Our goal is to coach our team to raise the bar still further. From the first point of check in to the final check out and “see you again soon,” we want each member of staff to strengthen the overall experience of each client. Leading this initiative, while ensuring the smooth running of ARROJO studio, is Nuala’s charge, and one she has already set to with gusto––the online salon appointment confirmations that we now offer to clients is an idea she brought to the table and quickly put into effect. There is no better person to lead our salon staff into a new decade of excellence.

As I talk of excellence I can’t help but think of ARROJO cosmetology students and staff. There’s has been such a success story that we’re now hiring new apprentices straight from the school; and to see their application, their dedication to the ARROJO culture of hairdressing precision and creativity, combined with exceptional client service, is as exciting as it is inspirational.

With excellence comes opportunity, and our education is now being sought by Empire, the biggest network of beauty schools and alumni in America. We’re teaming up with them to provide advanced education, new skills, confidence and creativity to beauty professionals, nationwide. As headliners for a series of events that leads to ‘Masters of Beauty’ certification for those taking the program, we are focused on giving trend awareness and creative expression, while teaching modern techniques in scissor, razor, and color placement. It is an incredible opportunity to share our philosophy of raising standards in the craft that we love.

Right now the other great happening is ‘ARROJO Ambassadors.’ Since the start of the company, ARROJO product has had requests from salon owners wishing to use the product in their own salon. But we never wanted to give just product; our vision was to tie product to education so that anyone that committed to using ARROJO would get, in return, a commitment from us to share our education, insights and inspirations with them. And with the infrastructure now in place to turn vision into reality, ARROJO Ambassadors is taking shape. By sharing all the techniques and practices that has led us to become, in the last decade, an industry leading brand, we’re building mutually beneficial relationships with Ambassadors, working with them to improve their hairdressing performance and business-building acumen. In return our product has national exposure and usage from professionals like us. It also means we’ll have greater connectivity to other stylists that are faithful to continued education, which in turn means, for our out-of-town clients looking for a good local salon in times they can’t get to the city, we can now recommend with assurance salons with the same outlook as us.

I must also say thank you to all clients for their continued support of ARROJO studio. I know that in the last year the economy has been tough, and I hope that the Client Charter, which offers discounts and promotions on services at the studio, helps you stay loyal to the ARROJO experience. We certainly appreciate your continued support and will strive toward ever better standards as we navigate a new decade of dreams and opportunities.
